Dr. David Vogel

David L. Vogel is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Iowa State University. His research interests focus on stigma and stereotyping as applied to psychological health, counseling, and the decision to seek therapy. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles and has given over 100 national conference presentations. David enjoys spending time with his wife and three dogs Molly, Daisy, and Grover. You can usually find David watching action movies, reading fantasy books, and cruising around the world tasting delicious foods.

Madelyn Losby

Madelyne Losby received her B.S. and M.S. in Psychology from Iowa State University and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology under Dr. Monica Marsee and Dr. David Vogel. Her master’s thesis examined the relation between emotion socialization as a child and current levels of distress, through parallel mediators of emotion recognition and emotion regulation skills. Maddy’s current research continues to examine emotional development across adolescence and emerging adulthood. Maddy is currently on internship.

Carlos Vidales

Carlos is a 5th year doctoral student at Iowa State University, having previously completed his Master’s in Psychology at California State University, Los Angeles. His research interests include examining protective factors amongst queer and men of color communities. In his free time, he usually is cooking new recipes, trying new coffee shops, or just napping with his cat, Julia.

Lisa Dazzell

Lisa Dazzell is a 4th year PhD graduate student in the Counseling Psychology Program at Iowa State University. Her research interests are in Black empowerment, Black liberation, the Black radical imagination as well as the stigma associated with seeking help for mental health concerns in the Black community. Lisa enjoys anything related to Black positivity, free writing, yoga, traveling, and eating!

Angelica Castro Bueno

Angelica is a third year Ph.D. student in the Counseling Psychology program at Iowa State University. Her research interests focus on the experiences of undocumented immigrants in the Midwest and stigma related to mental-health help seeking. In particular, she is interested in how DACA recipients access mental health services and ways of reducing barriers to promote help-seeking. In her free time, Angelica enjoys baking, running, and spending time with her Chihuahua-Frenchies named Coco and Bella.

Ashley Macbeth

Ashley Macbeth is a second year Ph.D student who studied at Iowa State University for her undergraduate degree. Her research interests include religious stigma of sexuality, specifically within the LGBTQ+ community, as well as broader issues of internalized stigma, and better understanding gender dysphoria. In her free time, Ashley enjoys art, such as drawing and painting, playing the piano, and hanging out with her dogs, April and Murphy.

Iloria Phoenix Lopez

Iloria Phoenix Lopez is a second year Ph.D. Student in the Counseling Psychology Program at Iowa State University, having previously received her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Her research interests focus on examining the mediating role of avoidant coping within the relationships between racism, stigma, and career performance. Iloria enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
